Change is inevitable. How we respond to it is a choice.

Change is inevitable. How we respond to it is a choice.

One of the standout moments from our recent Cortus Advisory Group away day was hearing from the incredible Stacey Copeland, a former England youth footballer and Professional Boxer, European silver medalist and the first British woman to ever win the Commonwealth Title. These days she is a TV & Radio presenter and commentator.

Her career has been anything but straightforward. It’s been built through setbacks, resilience, reinvention and an unwavering determination to keep moving forward and bring others along with her. That experience made her insights on coping with change extremely powerful.

A few takeaways that really resonated with our team:
๐—ง๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—บ โ€“ Success is rarely a solo achievement. The people around you matter.
๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ โ€“ Challenges aren’t roadblocks; they’re opportunities to grow stronger.
๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜‚ โ€“ A Finnish word that doesn’t translate easily, but embodies determination, courage and grit in the face of adversity.
๐—ง๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ โ€“ In yourself, your colleagues and the process, especially when the path ahead isn’t clear.
๐—ฃ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฒ โ€“ Knowing your “why” gives you direction when everything else feels uncertain.

There were also two messages that are worth carrying into every working day:

And perhaps a favourite…
“๐˜š๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ง ๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ด” โ€“ people who leave you with more energy than they found you with.

In a world where businesses are constantly evolving, the ability to embrace change isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s a competitive advantage.

A huge thank you to Stacey for an inspiring, honest and thought-provoking session that gave us all plenty to reflect on.
