Mordecai, what made you look for an internship?
I felt it was the best way for me to get some experience before leaving university.
What was it about Cortus Advisory Group that appealed to you?
It was one of the few firms around that were offering an advisory internship, away from the traditional audit internships that are usually lined up for Accounting and Finance students. Therefore, the uniqueness of the opportunity was the biggest attraction.
What 2-3 things did you hope to achieve during your time here?
Over and above undertaking learning about Transaction Services I wanted to be able to get a proper feel for Corporate Advisory and help me figure out if there is a particular niche I would like to specialise in later. Also, it allows me to get relevant experience in readiness for undertaking a graduate role for my ACA qualification after university, as this is my next goal!
So, what has been your experience so far?
I have received an in-depth induction and introduction to Transaction Services - the main part of my internship. But I have also been given me an introduction and understanding of the other services that Cortus provides i.e., within Corporate Advisory, including a lot of tailored training sessions for tools such as Excel and PowerPoint Create. This has been particularly useful – I know skills such as these are going to be critical to my career to learn from people that use them everyday has been great. I’ve picked up plenty of tips.
What aspects have you enjoyed the most?
It’s been a unique experience to actually participate in client meetings and this has probably been the highlight for me, especially after some gruelling technical work!
Finally – any advice to other graduates?
Yes. Go for it! You gain invaluable skills and get to see what it is like in a real-life deal environment, as well as meeting some great people! What do you have to lose?!
